I and a few friends meet up late last night to "make" a photo for this Hari Raya season. The main purpose of the exercise was to practice what we had learned about lighting over the years taking photos, and actually put our skills to the test. Location was in front of my apartment building and the objective was to create a kampung environment on the eve of Hari Raya.

... I had fun with my children tonight, playing with fireworks, sparklers to be exact. I had not updated the kids' album for quite a while already so I took this opportunity to snap some pix.

It's a public holiday here today .... and I baked cookies. Yeah! Holiday cookies.
This time of the year, I bake cookies for Hari Raya ... only one type, chocolate chips cookies, and lots of them. My mother will make one type of biscuits and so will my brother and sister. We then exchange cookies and we will have a variety of biscuits for hari raya.
One drawback to this, is that we'll all have the same cookies for Hari Raya

Before going down to Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (Jalan TAR) yesterday, I basically have the photo I'd like to get in my mind. The question was, if I could get to a high vantage point to create the image I wanted. The shot I wanted is a night shot, shot from an elevated angle and shoot at a slow speed to get some motion blur of the people at the night market.
I did not go alone. A couple of my friends was with me yesterday evening. We got to Jalan TAR quite early, around 5:00pm and immediately walked around the busy night market or pasar malam to look for the perfect spot. We went up the buildings along the street, one after another until we got to this spot and all of us were satisfied.
This was what we saw ... and we loved it.
By then. a couple more friends had joined me and we were all tired of climbing up the stairs to the roof top in search for the perfect spot. The time was just not right for the shoot, so we talked, and took photos of each other ...
Here are my friends.
Aishifu
And some are downright eyesores. The the colours are fantastic, though ...
As the day got dark enough, I got the shot I wanted... Just loved the colours. and the movements of the people on the street visiting the stalls. A river of people flowing banked by lighted umbrella of the stalls.
Only after getting what we came for, we got down from the roof top walk along the crowd, snapping some interesting photos. This person here is selling toys to the kids. check out the glasses. Cool eh?
Hari Raya cookies were here, there ... and everywhere.
This guy here, I think, is tired of walking and decided to just sit and wait for his wife doing the cookies shopping.
Balloons were abundant, and these guys were doing good business as parents buy the balloons to to pacify the kids while they do their shopping ...
Tired and hunrgy, all of us agreed to calling it a day by 8:30pm and made our way to dinner before going home.
...and went home tired but satisfied. It was a good outing, got what we wanted, and the company was marvellous. Thanks guys.
